NC University Officials Just ‘Changed the Wording’ Instead of Complying with DEI Policy
November 12, 2025
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) is still pushing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) on students, despite a ban from the University of North Carolina system’s Board of Governors.
“This office is not actually under the DEI officer, so we’re able to just keep going,” Office of Intercultural Engagement (OIE) Assistant Director Pascha Miller divulged to Accuracy in Media’s undercover investigator. “We just like, switched up our, you know, changed the wording of things”
She said on AIM’s hidden camera that they don’t use the phrase “DEI” anymore, and they avoid the word “diversity.”
But these changes at NCA&T are solely surface level, officials in the OIE explained.
OIE Office Manager Michael Eccles assured AIM’s investigator that “we’re still pushing through and trying to make sure people get what they need.”
While they continue to move forward with DEI programs, Eccles reiterated “We have to be careful how we present things, and even like [the] office of admissions with the language, cleverly like you talk about cleverly changing things.”
According to OIE LGBTA Programs & Services Assistant Director Austin Horne, no DEI roles have been cut at the school.
“Luckily, I think there’s only been one position that wasn’t lost, it was just changed here,” he said.
The UNC system Board of Governors officially repealed its DEI policies last year, replacing them with one to “reaffirm the University’s commitment to nondiscrimination, equality of opportunity, institutional neutrality, academic freedom and student success.”
But, this policy is “vague,” Horne explained, allowing schools to find loopholes around intended compliance.
He described the policy as “really leaving it up to each public university to kind of think about it in their own way.”
“You know, and consider how much they want to open themselves up to litigation,” Horne continued.
DEI officials at North Carolina schools aren’t going to give up this ideology easily, and they’re willing to use deception to maintain its presence on campus.
Lawmakers can’t stay silent—it’s time to act. Go to SaveNCSchools.com and send a message directly to the Board of Regents demanding accountability. Tell them loud and clear: woke university officials must not be allowed to twist vague language to dodge state policy.
Also consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support AIM’s investigative work.
