Dear Ms. O’Grady:

While America and much of the world seem preoccupied by the Middle East, you have been one of the lone media voices warning of continuing dangers and a national security threat to the U.S. in South America. Your March 14 column, “Why Can’t the CIA Tell Us More About Hugo’s Plotting?,” was an excellent treatment of an intelligence problem that we have seen in far too many important areas of concern. Your May 23 column broke new ground, noting that the Hugo Chavez regime had enlisted conservative Jack Kemp in a “charm offensive” in Washington. Your April 25 column criticized Secretary of State Powell for failing to take credit for a modest U.S. role in helping democracy survive in Chile. Please continue to focus on this critical area of the world, and thank you for providing information that is is next to impossible to find elsewhere in the major media.
