MSNBC blames Trump for anti-Asian violence; silent on Biden dropping anti-Asian discrimination lawsuit

In the wake of the Atlanta spa shootings that left eight people dead, including six Asian women, the media pushed to find evidence that the killings were racially motivated, despite the Atlanta police department saying it has not yet confirmed a motive.

In addition to blaming “whiteness” for the murders, the media also sought to cast blame on former President Donald Trump.

On MSNBC, Mike Barnicle joined Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe and claimed that “Donald Trump didn’t pull the trigger in Atlanta, but Donald Trump certainly was responsible for the anger and fear and the suspicion that exists in great degree in this country.”

Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki, also blamed Trump, saying, “I think there’s no question that some of the damaging rhetoric that we saw during the prior administration – calling COVID the ‘Wuhan virus’ or other things – led to perceptions of the Asian-American community that are inaccurate, unfair… has elevated threats against Asian Americans, and we’re seeing that around the country.”

However, in the push to blame Trump for the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, the media failed to mention the Biden administration’s own stance on anti-Asian discrimination in college admissions.

In February of 2021, Biden’s DOJ dropped a case that accused Yale of discriminating against Asian and white applicants in their admissions process. According to CNBC, this marks “a reversal from the Justice Department’s stance under former President Donald Trump.”

The lawsuit, which was brought about by the Trump administration, alleged that its two-year investigation had determined that Asian American and white students were only one-tenth to one-fourth as likely to be admitted to Yale as African American applicants with comparable academic records.

The Biden administration is actively perpetuating potential discrimination against Asian Americans on college campuses via its actions, but mainstream news outlets don’t want to talk about that. They’d rather focus on the fact that Trump said the coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China, which is in accordance with the World Health Organization’s report
