NYT reveals Gov. Cuomo’s $4M book deal ‘overlapped’ with nursing home coverup timeline

As media attention dies down on the Cuomo nursing home scandal, the New York Times dropped a bombshell report saying that Cuomo had a $4 million book deal in the works during the time he and his senior aides colluded to bury nursing home death reports.

The consequences of Cuomo’s decision to move COVID patients into nursing homes would not have bode well for sales of his book, titled, American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the Covid-19 Pandemic,”

It was discovered in early January that the numbers of nursing home deaths presented by the Cuomo administration were purposely understated. New York Attorney General Letitia James released an official report, which said that “[g]overnment guidance requiring the admission of COVID-19 patients into nursing homes may have put residents at increased risk of harm in some facilities and may have obscured the data available to assess that risk.”

When including patients that were sent to the hospital from a nursing home, the severity of the discrepancy in data from Cuomo and the AG office increased.

Richard Azzopardi, senior aide to Cuomo, has since denied any relation between the book deal and scandal, according to NYT.

As a prominent Democrat, the media will likely give him a pass on the strangely coincidental timing of his multi-million-dollar book deal, as they have with the original scandal.
