First Lady Jill Biden can do no wrong in fawning Vogue cover story
July 1, 2021
Vogue, the fashion magazine which snubbed former First Lady Melania Trump–one of the most elegant First Lady’s in U.S. history–is featuring current First Lady Jill Biden in a fawning cover story in its August issue.
The story written by Jonathan Van Meter showers so much praise on Biden that it falls short of any standard of good journalism.
That was probably a given though with the story which was titled “A First Lady for All of Us: On the Road with Dr. Jill Biden,” in an obvious slight to Melania Trump who the media criticized for actually having fashion sense and standing with her husband during his presidency.
Van Meter praises Biden for being “driven and tireless,” and for how she keeps a “real-world job” and still manages to remain human.
“Part of what makes the Bidens’ right-out-of-the-gate successes so extraordinary is that they seem to have perfectly read the room: We have been through this enormous, collective trauma, and here’s a calm, experienced, empathetic president, and here’s a first lady who is driven, tireless, effortlessly popular, but also someone who reminds us of ourselves. She’s selling a new vision for how our most fundamental institutions ought to work—infrastructure, education, public health—even as she goes to extraordinary lengths to keep a real-world job, to stay in touch with what makes her human and what matters most.”
But Van Meter was only just getting started as he described Biden as “the famously empathetic and free of pomp, hardworking, heart-on-her-sleeve, everywhere-at-once first lady that America needs now.”
Other words of praise included “joy multiplier, “effortlessly popular.” and “a key player in her husband’s administration” and “someone who reminds us of ourselves.”
Van Meter even went as far as to call her a “goddess,” for the way she looked during an impromptu stop with some students in Virginia.
After more than five months in office, the Biden’s continue to receive favorable media coverage, as journalists have abandoned any sense of objectivity as they overlook the president’s frequent mistakes and now in puffing up the First Lady as some kind of superwoman who has no equal.
