BuzzFeed blindly endorses Critical Race Theory

Buzzfeed has continued its staunch defense of Critical Race Theory (CRT) since it became the emerging social issue of the year. As the outlet defends the theory, it also reveals it does not know what CRT is, or where it’s being taught.

The article begins with, “The far-right has hammered away at the narrative that critical race theory is radical and anti-white. And now Republicans are using that story to try to win midterm elections.”.

When one looks into those who have pioneered Critical Race Theory, it becomes less of a “narrative” and more a valid concern.

Critical Race Theorist Derrick Bell has stated, “Progress in American race relations is largely a mirage, obscuring the fact that whites continue, consciously or unconsciously to do all in their power to ensure their dominion and maintain control.”

Ibram X. Kendi, the premier modern CRT scholar has claimed,  “The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.”

A theory is a direct reflection of the theorist, and Buzzfeed has blatantly ignored the more questionable beliefs that core scholars of the theory believe. Instead, they evaluate as follows,

“Critical race theory, in reality, acknowledges the country’s long history of racism and resulting inequity as a factor when evaluating policy — but it’s quickly become a catchall term for pushback on diversity efforts.”

The opposition is then branded as spreading a “story” or “narrative” when suggesting that this controversial topic might be best left to universities and law.

Despite acknowledging that, “Legal scholars created the theory in the 1970s as an alternative to legal and public policy analysis that did not consider the historical context of race and the effects of racism as a factor in evaluations of policy.”, Buzzfeed still believes this teaching belongs in k-12 education.

Buzzfeed then denies that schools are actually teaching the theory, despite being proven wrong in an earlier Accuracy in Media report citing discriminatory practices in Loudoun County Public Schools.

“Tucker Carlson relentlessly hammers this to Fox News viewers, some Republican members of Congress bring it up at unrelated hearings, and parents are being arrested protesting it at board meetings for schools where critical race theory isn’t taught.”

As Buzzfeed continues to enact its policy of “cry racist” instead of doing research, they flounder when it comes to factual reporting.
