Media covered for Biden’s lies on Afghanistan until the end
August 16, 2021
We are apparently watching President Joe Biden’s secret plan to end the Afghan War, a plan that was an open secret to everyone but the American people. And once again the media shares the blame for keeping Americans in the dark.
Today, the New Yorker’s Susan Glasser told CNN’s Jim Acosta that while Joe Biden was saying that the Afghan capital of Kabul wouldn’t become another fall-of-Saigon moment his intelligence minders were telling the president the exact opposite.
“Senior U.S. government officials knew what was coming, even if they hoped for better, or at least for more time until the Taliban onslaught,” Glasser wrote in the New Yorker.
Yet still, as late as July 8th, Biden was telling the American people that Afghanistan was safe for Democracy.
“The Taliban is not the South — the North Vietnamese army,” Biden said in shooting down comparisons to Vietnam. “They’re not — they’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy in the — of the United States from Afghanistan. It is not at all comparable.”
Biden in short lied and the media went along with the lie. It’s an old story.
That agreement between liberals in power and the media to suppress the truth has happened so often now that it hardly qualifies as a surprise anymore.
After all, this is the same media that knew New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was a serial sexual harasser and yet hired his brother, Chris, to be a torchbearer and media rock star as long as everyone would let them get away with it
This is the same media that knew that the origins of the COVID virus had never been properly investigated, yet shouted down anyone who questioned the insider lie that a Chinese weapons lab couldn’t possibly be the source of the virus.
This is the same media that relentlessly pushed the lie that Hillary Clinton’s defeat was somehow engineered by a Trump-Russia conspiracy rather than by her own mismanagement and deplorable personality.
This is the same media that put together a bulletin board of so-called “journalists” to coordinate the opposition to Governor Sarah Palin as Vice President of the United States while telling people they were impartial journalists.
In all of these cases, the difference between what the media actually knew and what they told the American people was an open secret inside the Beltway.
And most would call them the difference between the truth and lies.
As the Afghan capital fell this weekend, it was no longer possible to keep the secret between what the media knows about Joe Biden’s lies on Afghanistan and what the media has told the American people.
That they are being honest now doesn’t make up for the media’s sins of omission and of commission that are so obvious in retrospect that even the subjective must call them liars.
Too often our country is making policy in secret and using lies by the media to sell that policy until it’s too late.
And for Afghanistan, it’s finally too late.
