CNN repeatedly claims doctor gave Joe Rogan horse de-wormer

Joe Rogan is calling out those in the media who attacked him for taking the drug Ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19. After Rogan was diagnosed, he took to social media to explain that he was throwing the “kitchen sink” at the virus and using a number of different drugs and treatments.

Media outlets like CNN were quick to criticize Rogan. Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter told Anderson Cooper, “When you have a horse de-worming medication that’s discouraged by the government that actually causes some people in this crazed environment we’re in to actually want to try it – that’s the upside-down world we’re in with figures like Joe Rogan.” Another CNN host, Jim Acosta, claimed that Joe Rogan was spreading Covid disinformation.

Now, Rogan is mulling a lawsuit. On his recent podcast with friend and fellow comedian Tom Segura, Rogan said, “Do I have to sue CNN? They keep saying I’m taking horse de-wormer. I literally got it from a doctor. It’s an American company. They won a Nobel Prize in 2015 for use in human beings, and CNN is saying I’m taking horse de-wormer. They must know that’s a lie… What they didn’t highlight is that I got better. They’re trying to make it seem like I’m doing some wacky s*** that’s completely ineffective.”

Regardless of whether one believes Ivermectin should be used to treat COVID-19, simply labeling it a horse de-wormer is far from the truth. While the drug can be used as a horse de-wormer, it is also commonly used in human beings. The drug is not currently FDA-approved as a treatment for COVID-19, but it is approved for use in humans to treat some parasitic worms and as a topical treatment for external parasites and skin conditions like rosacea.

It’s also recommended by the WHO as a treatment for river blindness and scabies. Additionally, there have been some cases in which Ivermectin appears efficacious in treating COVID-19. Even the WHO admitted that the evidence is inconclusive and recommended that Ivermectin only be used to treat COVID-19 in clinical trials.

CNN is not the only media outlet that has criticized Rogan. Vice News claimed he’s a shill for Ivermectin because he used his first show post-recovery to “spread misinformation about the horse de-worming drug he took.” Why are those in the media so angry at Joe Rogan for taking a drug that might have saved his life?

Rogan believes that the thing the media is most upset about is not just the fact that he took Ivermectin, but the fact that he didn’t get sicker: “Because I wasn’t scared during the entire pandemic, what they would like was that when I did get sick that I was really sick and did get scared and learned my lesson. And instead, it’s the worst-case scenario for them. I bounced back about as quick as you can and they’re haters.” It appears that he might be right.
