Jezebel supports bullying Sen. Kyrsten Sinema
October 5, 2021
Controversy recently broke out when left-wing activists followed Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) into a bathroom to harass her about her refusal to support the new Democrat infrastructure bill. Jezebel – an allegedly feminist website – had a strong take on the matter with a piece headlined: “Absolutely Bully Kyrsten Sinema Outside Of Her Bathroom Stall.” In the article, the author supports the actions of the protestors and describes any defense of Sinema as “pearl-clutching.”
This is the same Jezebel that, mere months ago, published this article: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says She’s In Therapy for Trauma Related to the Capitol Insurrection.” Considering the fact that no insurrectionists actually entered Ocasio-Cortez’s building and she lied about the details of the incident, was it pearl-clutching then or is it pearl-clutching now? Unlike what happened with Ocasio-Cortez, Sinema’s harassers actually broke into the Arizona State University building in which she was teaching a class.
There is another observation in Jezebel’s Sinema article that speaks to the broader trend of leftist hypocrisy. On the subject of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who’s the only other Democrat senator to oppose the bill, the piece states: “[Sinema and Manchin] have been in lockstep, opposing any modicum of progress since Biden entered office and insisting that means testing and smaller budgets suffice in solving decades-old problems and systemic inequities. But it’s Sinema’s unique brand of amused aloofness that grates in a way that Manchin’s inherent stubbornness does not.” The Left is constantly demanding that women be treated exactly the same as men in every regard, yet they give Manchin a pass here while advocating for the bullying of Sinema.
When it comes to the treatment of women, the left has been hypocritical for a long time. They champion women like Christine Blasey Ford, who accused a Republican of sexual assault despite a lack of evidence while remaining silent when the finger is pointed at Democrats by women like Tara Reade and Lindsay Boylan. Now, the media are no longer simply remaining silent when women dare to think for themselves and stray from the progressive agenda – these women are viewed as an enemy that must be defeated at all costs. And we already know that many on the Left – including some in Congress – support the idea of violence against their political enemies.
If the roles were reversed in this situation and Sinema had sided with the Democrats on the infrastructure bill, and a group of right-wing activists stalked her into a restroom to berate her, the left would be up in arms about it. As has long been the case: Democrats only care about women when those women are on their side.
