Harry Potter reunion special erases J.K. Rowling
December 21, 2021
A trailer for the 20th Anniversary Harry Potter reunion special just dropped but there’s an omission that’s impossible to ignore: the series’ creator, J.K. Rowling. The famous author is absent from not only the trailer but the majority of the special itself. Rowling was not interviewed at all for the reunion and will only appear in archived footage.
Rowling has come under fire recently for her opinion on transgenderism. Earlier this month, Rowling tweeted her strong dissent of a new move by U.K. police that will allow male rapists to self-identify as women. Leftists quickly pounced on Rowling for the tweet, calling her a transphobe and insisting that her words were inciting violence towards trans people despite a lack of any supporting evidence.
The Left’s newfound hatred for Rowling is intense and somewhat baffling, considering the fact that the author is an avowed feminist and likely a liberal herself. She has a charitable trust that supports victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. Rowling was once a darling of the Left, but leftists swiftly revoked their support following her comments and now insist that she must be canceled for her wrongthink. So much for the party of tolerance.
Male cast members of the Harry Potter franchise, who owe their fame to Rowling, have now turned on her. Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the title character, wrote in a blog post last year, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people.”
Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, also had something to say about Rowling’s opinions on transgenderism, telling Esquire that while he’s “hugely grateful [for] everything that she’s done… I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that.”
Rowling is one of the best-selling fiction authors of all time and the creator of a children’s series that arguably shaped an entire generation. The films have raked in nearly $1 billion for Warner Brothers, the studio behind it, and has made its many actors and actresses into household names.
All of the people involved in the series are happy to keep taking the money, living off royalties and enjoying the fame that Rowling has brought to them, but they cannot accept her opinions. Opinions that, it’s worth noting, are shared by many people in the U.S. and beyond. Warner Brothers is so committed to signaling its reverence to woke ideologies that they’re willing to sacrifice the creator of one of their best-selling products as long as it keeps the Left happy.
