The Sun equates conservativism to meth addiction, drunk driving in effort to politicize Bob Saget’s death

The Sun recently published an article detailing the “Inside curse of Full House with stars plagued by arrests, drug addictions, and eating disorders before Bob Saget’s death.” In the piece and on the cover, they equated Candace Cameron Bure’s “conservative views” with other co-stars’ issues, such as Lori Loughlin’s college admissions scandal and Jodie Sweetin’s past meth addiction

So what does The Sun find most troubling about Bure’s “conservative views”? The fact that she advocates for traditional marriage roles. From The Sun: “Candace Cameron Bure came in for some flak in 2014 after she expressed her conservative views in her marriage to hockey player Valeri Bure. She described her role in her marriage as ‘submissive.’”

“I am not a passive person. But I chose to fall into a more submissive role in our relationship because I wanted to do everything in my power to make my marriage and family work,” Bure wrote in her memoir, “Balancing It All.”

Traditional marriage roles, according to The Sun, are just as damaging and tragic as drunk driving.

Legacy media figureheads demonizing conservatives is nothing new, but to put them on the same level as drug and alcohol abuse or fraud is hyperbolic at best, and an outright lie at worst. On the cover, the Sun actually appears to downplay Bure’s co-stars’ troubles by labeling Sweetin’s meth addiction as “troubled relationships” and Loughlin’s admissions scandal and the jail time she served for it as simply “mail fraud.”

What’s even more bizarre about this piece is how it’s centering around Bob Saget’s tragic and untimely death. An entire generation grew up with Saget as their TV dad. He was beloved on both sides of the political aisle and one of the few celebrities left in America who could truly unite people. While Saget never firmly entrenched himself with either political party, he was at the very least warm towards Republicans. He was friendly with conservative commentator Dave Rubin and sat down with him on multiple occasions to talk about a variety of subjects.

The Sun using Bob Saget’s death as an opportunity to demonize conservatives is not only crass and opportunistic, it goes against everything Saget stood for. The Sun clearly doesn’t care about ethics or the truth. With this kind of article, they’ve proved all they care about are clicks.
