Teen Vogue tries to shove parents even further out of their children’s lives

According to a recent Teen Vogue piece, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R) policies, which protect girls in school and support parents’ rights, will have fatal consequences.

Iris Nijbroek, whom Teen Vogue identifies as a student in Virginia, claims that keeping male and female spaces separate and allowing parents to have a say in their children’s education are “outdated ideas” and “total crap.”

Nijbroek says that informing parents of students’ decisions to transition their genders “will have dangerous consequences.” She added that they could even put students’ lives in danger. Of course, she’s not wrong that there are dangerous consequences associated with the childhood transgenderism movement, they just aren’t the ones she is implying.

Notably, young teenagers, as well as 18-25 year olds, represent a disproportionately large share of transgender-identifying individuals in the U.S. Advocates, however, write this rise off as a result of higher rates of acceptance.

These young people aren’t just transitioning socially, either. One recent study revealed that chest reconstruction surgeries on minors rose by a staggering figure – 389%. This is an irreversible procedure.

The author further argued that schools must reject Youngkin’s policies and further affirm students who choose to become transgender. “The less affirming the school, the more mental pain experienced by LGBTQ students,” she wrote.

Despite the policies not yet having taken effect, she says “They’re already harming students’ mental well-being.”

“My friend will be forced to wear a dress because of their family’s views on gender identity,“ she cited as one of the supposedly mentally distressing consequences of the new policies.

“School has always provided a safe place for them,” Nijbroek mourned.

While the author touts providing a “safe place” for LGBT individuals, she avoids mentioning the safety of girls. It’s important to note that in 2021, in Virginia’s Loudoun County, a male high-school student was accused of sexually assaulting two females in a girls’ bathroom. He identified as a non-binary or gender-fluid individual.

Last month, the school, which is charged with the safety of its students, was found to have been delinquent in its handling of the rapes by a grand jury.

Disregarding these events, she further described Youngkin’s actions towards protecting young women and girls in their school and preserving parental rights in education as “restrict[ing] the rights of trans and nonbinary students.”

“Their identity should be left up to them and them alone,” she said.

Teen Vogue didn’t report on the alleged assaults by an LGBT-identifying student in Loudoun County for its teen target audience. However, it did publish an op-ed in March of 2022 calling the issue “A complicated story about violence and bathrooms.”

One of the authors, prominent Left-wing activist Alejandra Caraballo, was recently a witness at a House Committee on Oversight and Reform hearing.

During the hearing, she was questioned by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) over a tweet she wrote in the wake of the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

“The 6 justices who overturned Roe should never know peace again. It is our civic duty to accost them every time they are in public,” Caraballo tweeted. “They are pariahs. Since women don’t have their rights, these justices should never have a peaceful moment in public again.”

She claimed during the hearing that her tweet was taken out of context.

Teen Vogue’s target demographic is teenage girls. But their safety is far from the magazine’s top concern. An issue like assault is relevant to their desired readership and deserves coverage. And topics associated with their schools and the policies therein deserve balanced coverage. Instead, it offers readers one-sided reporting, heavily pushing a pro-transgender message and emphasizing youth transition.
