Antisemitism on elite campuses gets even worse

The antisemitism at elite colleges continues to worsen. It’s possible to think – at least, to hope – that this is the storm before the dam breaks.

At Yale, we have students – what could be called a mob – refusing to allow an Orthodox Jewish student to pass through the campus. This has more than slightly disturbing echoes of 1930s Germany.

At Columbia, the possibility of violence is such that no in-person classes took place today. This again has those overtones – when the threat of the mob is such that even simple physical safety cannot be guaranteed.

There are claims at least that some faculty are allowing outsiders – we can assume that they’re not disinterested observers – onto campus around the restrictions put in place to protect students.

It is true that some of those who took part in the earlier demonstrations are being punished. Moved off campus, for example. But still at Columbia, we have students forming a chain to keep Jewish students out of an “autonomous zone.” Again with those echoes of Nazi Germany.

We’ve long said that what was happening with woke in schools, the DEI, SEL, CRT and so on, only kept happening because parents didn’t know. As lockdown and remote classes led to parents grasping what the schools were teaching then came the reaction. Because people were aware therefore the fight back started.

It’s possible that this is now starting here with antisemitism on campuses. It’s been going on a long time but the reactions to the Hamas attacks have brought it to public attention. Obviously something that we here at Accuracy in Media have been partly responsible for. Now that this is hitting the headlines people are aware of what has long been happening – and saying not in my name, not in my name you don’t.

We’ve even the White House (in a Democratic Administration, in election season) and a Democratic senator like John Fetterman insisting that this antisemitism cannot be allowed to continue. Perhaps we’ll get to the point where something will be done.

It’s necessary for everyone to be aware of these abuses before they will be dealt with. Which is the hope about campus antisemitism now. We’re all seeing it, in all its vileness. We have to keep the pressure up, of course, but now it’s a public issue something can be done.
