Bassett rep says anti-Semitic accusations against 2 medical students ‘unequivocally false’
The political war in this country over protests against the war in Gaza has launched a skirmish in Cooperstown.
The salvo — aimed at two medical students studying at Bassett Healthcare as part of a joint medical education program between Bassett and Columbia University — comes in the form of an electronic billboard.
The conservative nonprofit Accuracy in Media has used the same tactic in communities and at universities across the country to call out people the group alleges are anti-Semitic.
In this case, the billboard, attached to a truck parked across the street from the Bassett Campus on Thursday, included photos of the two students with their names.
It read, “Two radical anti-Semites just started their residency at Bassett Medical Center.” It also includes “BassettandHamas.com” and Accuracy in Media.
The students in question are not residents, though, but third-year medical students spending the final two and a half years of medical school at Bassett, Bassett officials confirmed.
