‘Unleash education freedom’: Activist Riley Gaines in Austin to support school choice bill

Gov. Greg Abbott is getting some high-profile support in his push to get school choice across the finish line. Conservative political activist and former NCAA All-American swimmer Riley Gaines was in Austin on Thursday to urge state lawmakers to approve the plan.

“Unleash education freedom.” “Protect parental rights.” “Fight for universal school choice.”

Those were the themes explored on the steps of the State Capitol as Gaines rallied support for school choice on the same day HB3 was unveiled in the Texas House.

“I’m excited to see Texas really take this next big step and hopefully get it onto Gov. Abbott’s desk, which he has already pledged of course he will sign,” Gaines said. “We need to give the authority back to parents. They know their child best. They should be able to choose where their child gets their education and what suits them best.”
