NowThis fuels Trump derangement with sexist smears, algorithm-driven hysteria
April 8, 2025
In a recent social media video, NowThis paints all male Trump voters as violent, extremist misogynists who have been attacking all women’s “right to exist” and more. With an eagerness to combat sexism, the young, impressionable current and future voters watching the video take its misandrist lies as gospel. Their ongoing activism and votes will reflect their newly fortified convictions.
As they engage with the video and run up its view count to about four million across platforms, they invite social media algorithms’ promotion of countless other defamatory falsehoods about Trump and his male supporters.
As NowThis knows, politics is downstream of culture, such as the recent “Love Is Blind” reality dating show episode in which a progressive woman rejects a man for the thought-crimes of disagreeing with her on Black Lives Matter, vaccines and other dogmas. The woman, NowThis all but proclaims in the video, is not only empowered, but also a heroine for all of the women who have been oppressed by male intolerance for their one-sided beliefs in dating.
As NowThis explicitly says, male Trump voters are “trying to normalize the bigotry.” When in a relationship with such a man, compromising with him – far from agreeing with him entirely – actually overlooks the abuse of women. In fact, any association with him endangers the woman’s very life since his political views destroy her “right to exist.”
And that’s by design, through the systemic radicalization of men into misogyny, particularly young men inundated by algorithmic misogyny on social media.
Pot, meet kettle. The only algorithmic sexism bombarding young adults on social media comes from NowThis and other Big Tech-backed monoliths. The beleaguered NowThis has pivoted to publishing short videos on social media, once boasting the title of the most-watched “social news creator” in the world. The pertinent video was posted to Instagram and TikTok accounts with over 6.6 million followers combined.
The innumerable zoomers and millennials among those followers are – you could say – being systemically radicalized into misandry to #resist Trump more fervently than before. Only this time around, perhaps they’re not resisting Trump as much as they are men.
