UWF Administrator Caught Bragging About Evading Florida DEI Ban
May 15, 2025
An administrator at the University of West Florida was caught explaining in detail how the school bypasses the state ban on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programming at state colleges and universities.
When talking to Accuracy in Media’s hidden-camera investigators, Aurora Osborn, the Senior Director of the Office of Campus Culture and Access for the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Affairs, Student Ombuds, explicitly admitted that Florida law does not allow DEI programming using state funds at public colleges and universities.
“So, state funds cannot be used to be spent on certain programs that promote DEI,” she said. She continued, “Since we are paid by state funds, we cannot do that.”
She then explained how to evade that ban.
“But there are other funds involved in running a university,” she said. She gave examples of “donations” and “student fees.”
While talking to AIM’s investigators, she used scare quotes to try to minimize concerns about DEI. She also explained her own ideological commitment to promoting DEI.
“DEI in and of itself is good for society,” she said.
“I think at the extreme, DEI can be exclusive and not be open to viewpoint diversity,” she confessed. “And then, so what happens is the pendulum swings on the other side, and you have the conservatives saying that DEI is teaching our kids to hate white people and men and straight people, which neither of those things are true.”
