AIM Exposes Louisville Sociology Department for Proudly Continuing DEI Goals

In Kentucky, HB 4 prohibits DEI in higher education including training, scholarships, and other programs like affirmative action. However, a Sociology professor reveals that DEI still runs rampant through many facets of liberal arts studies at the University of Louisville.

Accuracy in Media sent an undercover journalist to speak to Karen Christopher, a Professor of Sociology at the University of Louisville to uncover the truth behind the state of the DEI ban in higher education.

Academics like Christopher often search for any gap in the law to continue their DEI agenda. She knows the extent of HB 4, and makes special note that “all curriculum is excluded” from the current DEI ban.

In further discussing the scope of HB 4, the professor reassured our journalist that, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is central to the field of Sociology…I’m teaching it exactly the same…curriculum has not been touched, yet…[s]o in terms of the classes you would take, nothing would change.”

The professor also cites hope in the new University of Louisville president, Gerry Bradley, claiming that “…a lot of faculty and staff like [Gerry Bradley] better on issues of DEI…. Kentucky is a very conservative legislature…he’s said a lot of the right things to faculty and staff, like oh look we still value this.”

However, Christopher acknowledges that the Kentucky legislature likely intends to include curriculum in this ban, knowing that if it happens she will no longer be able to teach her classes “exactly the same” as she does now under the current HB 4 language.

If the bill’s intention was to protect students from overtly political professors and their influence, then it would also seek to prohibit DEI from infecting the curriculum that students are subjected to every day.

Take action at DEIinKentucky.com and send a message to relevant elected officials to close the gaps and protect higher education.
