Ohio State trustees won’t say whether school is complying with DEI ban

The Board of Trustees at the Ohio State University are staying tight-lipped amid a Department of Justice investigation into the school’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices.
President Trump’s administration opened investigations this spring at three medical schools, including at Ohio State. The DOJ sought any documents regarding the use of race in admissions.
Accuracy in Media President Adam Guillette paid a visit recently to a Board of Trustees meeting, where he caught up with several members.
But none were willing to comment on Ohio State’s compliance with the law or the DOJ investigation.
The DOJ’s investigation came shortly after AIM released its first video showing an Ohio State administrator on hidden camera admitting that DEI practices were still underway, in defiance of state law.
“Because of the law, we had to change signs and centers,” Melissa Newhouse, Executive Administrative Assistant for the Office of the Dean at Ohio State said in the video.
“The ‘whites’ are there too, not just the underrepresented. They brought the people with the privilege there too,” she told AIM’s undercover journalist.
After this investigation, Ohio State requested AIM’s raw footage–which we would have been happy to provide. All that we asked was for the university’s president or provost to meet with AIM for a brief interview at the date and time of their choosing.
This request earned radio silence from Ohio State.
In an eventual response, the university said it would have wanted to include the raw footage in its response to the DOJ. But we had them covered, and sent it directly to the investigators.
In fact, AIM also brought one of its signature mobile billboards to Ohio State’s board of trustees to show them the unedited footage.
Ohio is one of several states that recently banned DEI offices on public college campuses and prohibited institutions from issuing controversial DEI statements.
Ohio State acknowledges the law, with an implementation guide readily available on its website.
While universities like Ohio State publicly acknowledge such DEI bans, AIM’s investigation shows faculty are still working behind the scenes to keep it up and running.
