Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Austin ISD in response to Accuracy in Media’s undercover reporting that found the school district is violating the state’s ban on teaching critical race theory.

Accuracy in Media’s investigation discovered Adrienne Aldaco, the interim director of DEI for Austin ISD, revealing “there are options” to get around the ban on CRT.

The hidden-camera investigation also found that while there is a ban on using The 1619 Project in schools, Stephanie Hawley, equity officer for Austin ISD, talked about how the district uses Newsela to present the same content in the classroom–just without the masthead from The 1619 Project.

Paxton is deposing the superintendent and Board Trustees for Austin ISD because of this deception.

“It’s outrageous that Austin ISD officials think they can ignore state law to put woke indoctrination in Texas classrooms,” Paxton said in his press release.
