DEI is ‘in our hearts,’ staffer says
Another Arizona State University staffer was caught in an undercover video admitting that diversity, equity, and inclusion practices remain at the school.
“I know that the new legislation has asked us to eliminate it, but it’s in our hearts in education, so education has that just naturally,” Veronica McDaniel said in a video captured by investigative group Accuracy in Media.
McDaniel is a recruitment specialist at ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation.
She added that within Fulton College, the curriculum “hasn’t changed much” since President Donald Trump’s recent crackdown on DEI in higher education. She also said students should not be concerned that DEI has been removed.
The College Fix contacted McDaniel by email seeking clarification on her remarks in the video but has yet to receive a response.
Accuracy in Media has also caught several other ASU staffers admitting that DEI remains at the school.
One video shows enrollment coach Megan Neumann saying the school is still “actively” incorporating DEI, The Fix previously reported.
In another video, Allison Reynolds, the academic success advisor in the Psychology Department, said DEI is a “big part” of the school’s “goals.”
A third video shows Associate Dean of Inclusive Design for Equity and Access Chandra Crudup saying the school has “shifted” some of its language to “get ahead” of a DEI ban and “not become a target.”
“We started changing language, but we’re still doing the same thing,” she said.
