Campus Reform Covers AIM Hidden Camera Investigation at Bowling Green State University
May 5, 2026
A Bowling Green State University professor has admitted in an undercover video that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) still pervades his department’s curriculum.
Adam Watkins, a professor and the chair of the Ohio-based university’s Department of Human Services, is the most recent higher education official to discuss DEI rebranding in an undercover Accuracy in Media (AIM) video, which was published on April 28.
“These comments aren’t surprising, but they are outrageous,” AIM president Adam Guillette told Campus Reform. “It’s clear that Ohio’s DEI ban isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.”
As Campus Reform reported in March 2025, Ohio has adopted legislation (S.B. 1) to restrict DEI initiatives, offices, and positions at public colleges and universities.
In addition to state legislation, President Trump signed an executive order in January 2025 threatening to remove federal funding from institutions that continue to promote DEI.
According to Watkins, his department has renamed courses to avoid anti-DEI orders.
“While we have been impacted to an extent by some of the political dynamics at the state level, I think the impact has been relatively minimal,” Watkins says in the video.
“They have had to rename a few courses to align with certain expectations set by the state,” he continued. “However, the social work program does have an accrediting body specific to their discipline that requires, in order for them to maintain accreditation, that they still include components in the curriculum that align with some of the things that you just mentioned.”
In response to Watkins’ comments, Guillette called for more legislation to address DEI loopholes.
“Ohio’s legislators should watch this video so that they know exactly what they’re up against. These radicals are working overtime to promote DEI precisely because it’s a conservative state,” he added. “If the legislature is serious about saving higher education in Ohio, it must enact a Florida-style law and prohibit universities from promoting identity politics.”
